For several years now, the Chair of Energy Economics has been offering the market and business game "Trading in the Energy Market". The aim of the game is to teach students the different aspects of energy trading in a practical way. The focus is on the daily operational decisions of electricity supply companies. The game illustrates the most important commercial aspects of short- and medium-term power plant deployment and energy trading. In the market and business game, the interaction of the various decisions on end customer supply, power plant deployment and fuel procurement can be experienced directly. The rules of the individual trading segments are adopted by the real trading centres (e.g. EEX). The game is played in several groups. The groups with the best final placings are awarded prizes by EWE Trading GmbH as sponsor of the simulation.
