The House of Energy Markets and Finance explores the junction of energy and finance economics. The connection of energy economics and fiscal methods are unique in this context. Our member’s expertise and international visibility are the pillars the House of Energy Markets and Finance is based on. The centre of research offers a platform for scientific analysis and support of the energy system’s transformation. Our centre supports young academics in the fields of energy and finance economics and promotes interdisciplinary cooperation.

Goals and Ambition

The House of Energy Markets and Finance apires to be the leading research institution in Germany for research at the junction of energy and finance. It builds on the expertise and international visibility of its members. The existing competences of the participating departments at the University of Duisburg-Essen will be brought together to form a centre with international visibility, combining research and teaching into sustainable market and trade concepts.

The combination of energy economics and financial mathematics methods is unique. In addition, the centre will serve as a crystallisation point for further competences related to the energy market. In particular, the integration of environmental economic and financial expertise as well as the consideration of competences from general micro- and macroeconomics, computer science and engineering sciences are planned in this context. Building on existing teaching programmes and research projects, the centre offers a platform for economic analysis and monitoring of the transformation in the energy system. The House of Energy Markets and Finance wants to actively seek cooperation with companies, universities and research institutions.
